Slowly slowing down for the holidays

Slowly slowing down for the holidays

10 days until Christmas – life’s still busy but showing signs of slowing down… I even took my ‘rest day’ today seriously and had a long afternoon nap :)

MrB has been coming home before the kids are in bed and it’s been so nice. Sadly I had almost forgotten just how nice it is when he comes home in time to do the boys’ bathtime and bedtime with me. I feel total calmness come over me as soon as he walks in the door and I love when all 4 of us are cuddling in our bed and reading books. It’s visible and palpable how the kids love having him home during workday evenings and I feel a lot less frantic when he’s around (I can be a bit of a stress head, especially when I have to jump straight into homework/bath/books/bed routine after a day in the office). An evening of soccer

An evening of soccer

At the end of May Oskar’s school had a soccer tournament at their playing fields. It wasn’t for students though – it was for parents and teachers :) There were 5 teams and J played in the year-2 team.

Oskar stayed near J the entire 4 hours, he was really excited to be there…

Buckets keep us organised

Buckets keep us organised

I took photos of buckets today.

Thankfully not the kind that my poor husband has been using due to his labyrinthitis related nausea :)

He is getting slowly better, by the way, but he still cannot walk further than to the bathroom and back. His new anti-nausea medication means though that he can finally keep food down. Every night we go to bed with a hope that the next day is better than the one ending…

So back to the buckets [...]

This virus kicks ass (and NOT in a good way!)

I know people LOVE to read about gross and debilitating illnesses ;), so let me tell you —– my GAWD, labyrinthitis is a BITCH!

(this post will have a lot of ALL CAPS)

The dude is out. I mean OUT. [...]

Labyrinthitis confirmed

Labyrinthitis confirmed

J had a phone consultation with a GP again who concurred with my diagnosis of labyrinthitis.

It’s basically an infection of the part of your inner ear that’s called the labyrinth that controls the body’s balance. It usually follows the flu or a cold and is sometimes triggered by flying.

Flying to Estonia with a bad cold probably was not the wisest thing to do…

Lesson learned. The hard way.

On PND and laughter (and on how my husband gets taken for a gay guy at a pub)

I had a Moaning Myrtle kind of an evening last night – I have been not been taking my Citalopram as often as I should and it looks like it’s caught up with me. I was feeling very very glum and annoyingly teary.

“My God, woman, it’s been 3 years, pull yourself together!” I kept telling myself… but since I had spent the day talking either to pregnant people or to people who’d just had a beautifully peaceful selective-section, the feelings of total failure and humiliation just all came flooding back.

Thankfully when J came home after 10 sometime, he provided me with some humour to end the day on a slightly positive note.

“You know someone tried to pick me up at the pub!” [...]

Anniversary weekend: Rest&Relaxation in style

Anniversary weekend: Rest&Relaxation in style

We didn’t buy each other presents for our wedding anniversary, we spent a day in a spa hotel instead. Last year we had done the same and loved it so much that we decided to make this an annual treat from now on – a totally perfect way to celebrate clocking up another year of being married :)

We went to the Four Season’s spa hotel in Hampshire. It’s less than an hour’s drive from home, but it’s surrounded by nothing but fields so it feels like a million miles away from London. [...]

Child one at school, child two at nursery. Mother runs and shops and blogs.

Child one at school, child two at nursery. Mother runs and shops and blogs.

I don’t work on Wednesdays. You know that by now, right? :)

Today I dropped Oskar off at school, ran 11km making sure I didn’t arrive home before my mother had left to take Oliver to the nursery, did some sit ups and two push ups, had a shower, made a coffee, read the paper in peace and quiet and then went shopping at 10:30.

I’d almost hate myself if I wasn’t me :)

Then I made a mistake. I went to Max Mara and touched one of their black cashmere coats. They had to call security after 30 minutes to detach me from it and give me directions to Marks and Spencer. [...]

When the medical system calls for self-surgery

When the medical system calls for self-surgery

In August 2006, 6 months after we had arrived in London, my husband had a very unfortunate incident – as he cycled to work, an oncoming car decided to take a turn in front of him and my husband ended up flying through a car window and his bike ended up looking like this.

(You can read about it in a post called “&*^%$# cars!” and one called “National Lampoon’s European Vacation“) [...]

Danesfield House

Danesfield House

One of the perks of living with your mother is being able to leave town with just your husband once in a while. This Saturday morning we packed our bags, took the train from London Paddington to Maidenhead and then a cab to Danesfield House Hotel & Spa. [...]

Tuesday afternoon can’t come soon enough

I’ve been going to bed anytime between 7:30 and 8:30 every night since I got back from Australia… Initially it was jet lag… but the last few days have been just not wanting to prolong yet another day without my other half… I am such a wuss… But I just can’t help it that he’s [...]

How many days until the next holiday?

As I emerged from the underground tunnel this morning after 8am, I thought “geez, it’s still so dark… ” Turns out it’s not the usual winter’s doom&gloom, but a partial solar eclipse.   It’s too cloudy to actually see the sun, but the general colour of the sky is weirdly matte and grey. It’s been a [...]

Been to heaven

Been to heaven

On Saturday morning, J and I left London and checked into heaven – we spent 24 hours getting scrubbed and massaged and moisturised and steamed and exercised and very well fed in a spa hotel. We started the experience with a truly relaxing and detoxing whole-body mud wrap, followed by a light lunch. Then we [...]

My very own Tree of Love

My very own Tree of Love

Back in June I moaned that the Tree of Love elephant from the Elephant Parade was sold out at Selfridges.  This Monday James handed me a box with one inside! :)  He had ordered it in June, but since they’re hand painted, it took a while to arrive. I’m giddy, it’s so cute :)
