Long weekend in Brighton
On Thursday morning we packed our bags and headed down to Brighton for a long weekend. Despite it being February, we had a lovely seaside mini-holiday:
- the kids loved sleeping in the same bed with us (we pushed a double and a single together to fit us all in, my mom had the other single)
- they loved going to bed late (as we were all in one room, we all went to bed at 9 or 9:30)
- they loved tossing rocks into the waves; they loved going to the swimming pool every day
- they loved watching new movies on my iPad
- they loved that we made monsters for them out of their new Papertoy Monsters book
- they loved having Ben&Jerry’s
- they loved playing in the sand
- they loved the amusement park on Brighton Pier
As for the adults? Well, I have to say that I did enjoy the early nights, comfy bed and the fact that Oliver was in the same bed with Oskar and not in between us.
I also enjoyed the swimming pool and the sauna, dinner at Jamie’s Italian (carbo loading for my run on Sunday ;) and a bit of shopping without kids on Saturday morning.
However – gluing those darn monsters was not that much fun :| (fiddly as heck), taking a 3-year old to an amusement park where most rides are not for his age was not that much fun, very bad pancakes for breakfast at the King’s Hotel and the Wi-Fi that didn’t reach our room were not that much fun; going trough the House of Horrors with Oskar was not that much fun (I’m such a wuss :).
On the last day I left the hotel early to run the Brighton Half Marathon but I’ll write about it separately later. After my run we drove back to London, stopping at McDonalds to have a birthday lunch for Oskar. In the evening we had some chocolate cake with strawberries and whipped cream as the birthday boy requested and that was the end of the school holiday mini-break.

I am glad that you had a good time (despite the bad pancakes -yerk!). Going with the kids was indeed very brave of you. I can’t believe that you ran a half marathon. Now I feel like a couch potato. Must try harder.
