Before and after some photoshopping magic
This week we received a CD with the photos that we had taken of all of us while in Estonia this summer. I am generally quite uncomfortable in front of the camera but fortunately there were quite a few family photos that had turned out pretty well and will be printed and framed.
As I was prepping some of them for the blog, I way too quickly pressed on the ‘erase’ tool where my face was in a close-up and fixed up the dreadfully dark circles under my eyes. After I had finished I felt really crap :| I liked the end result but just felt really shitty that my face has reached the age that no amount of concealer can do as good of a job as a bit of photoshopping magic can.
Now I’ve thought about it for a few days and to be honest I just don’t know what to think about it – to photoshop my face in photos or to leave it? To put on more make up? In the end, is there a difference – loads of make up OR photoshopping to achieve the same result?
What do you think? Do you photoshop your face before you upload pictures to blog/Facebook/Flickr, etc.?

P.S. If anyone knows a good down-to earth make-up person in London, I think I need help – I clearly cannot get away with just tinted moisturiser/concealer and mascara anymore, but I really don’t know how to apply anything else :|

The first thing I noticed about your picture was your beautiful, bright smile. That’s where the eye is automatically drawn to in the pic. Your “dark” circles are very minimal, and I would never have noticed if you didn’t point it out. But we are all our own worst critics! And I’m super guilty of using a nice little skin smoothing action on my face in photoshop – every time.
I’m quite a make-up junkie so I like to play around with that to cover my problem areas. I photoshop my face only when I have a huuuuuge red zit or something (thank god it doesn’t happen too often) or my thighs if you can see some nasty cellulite, hahahahaa! But yeah, that’s cheating ;)
Other than that I agree with Brooke :)
You must be joking! You look great on both pictures! I would love to have your dark circles under my eyes!
I don’t think that we see us as we are. You have nothing to worry about!
Either you lot are all lying to me or it’s really true that we do not see ourselves as others do. Maybe I should stop staring at my sunspots, pimple scars and wrinkles from close up and only look at myself from a bit of distance :)
I have to say that before reading your post I looked at the pictures and could not figure out the difference :) I just noticed your beautiful smile!
I don’t use make up at all. If anything bothers me on my photos, then yeah, I’ll use Photoshop and to be honest I don’t even find it cheating :D I don’t use it much, but sometimes… For example I can’t stand shiny forehead :P
Really, what is the difference… Make up or Photoshop, we just use them to feel more beautiful. Unless you use then too much, I think it’s totally OK.
And I do believe there’s a huge difference how we see ourselves and other people on photos. You usually see these details only with yourself. So again, if the others won’t even notice the difference, why shouldn’t we do it… If it makes us feel better :D
Didn’t notice the dark circles either! Had to check the photo twice! Like a said – beautiful photo with a stunningly beautiful woman on it!
You look great in both photos. The circles are not nearly as ‘bad’ as you think!
Same here:)
It said that it’s not enough words:(
I agree with the others who say you look great in both pictures! I can see a slight difference between the 2 pics, but not much – if the original were a pic of me, I would not have bothered photoshopping it! It’s the smile and the gorgeous blue of your eyes that stand out.
I have much darker circles under my eyes – they appear to be genetic as my 9 year-old son has them too :-( I post pics of myself to FB that are taken from a distance so no one can see the wrinkles, grey hair and dark circles! Classmates from 30 years ago say I haven’t changed ;-)
